“America was built on courage, on imagination, and an unbeatable determination to do the job at hand.”
– President Harry S. Truman
I don’t know about you, but this week has just felt heavy. With every new headline, it’s felt a bit like a terrible comedy of errors, but where the casualties are somehow everyone I know and love, and all the things I really care about the most. In short, Twitter has not been a good time, this week.
And yet...
Today, as we celebrate the founding of our country, I’m reminded of those words from President Truman. Throughout this past year, Stephanie and I have criss-crossed the state to meet with dozens of Democratic candidates who’ve stepped up and are challenging the status quo. These folks are actively running to unseat some of the worst Republican politicians in Texas. And many of them are living in the reddest and most rural parts of Texas where it isn’t easy, or comfortable to be a Democrat running for office — sometimes it can be downright dangerous.
Already this year, the candidates we're supporting have shown us (and everyone else, too!) their remarkable courage, extreme bravery, and sheer determination when it comes to this next election. They give me hope for the future.
The path to victory isn’t going to be easy — not here in Texas. Heck, at this point, it's beginning to feel like making to next week without losing any of the optimism I have right now, just that might be a victory.
If we all work together, I know the candidates who’ve stepped up this cycle won’t have to walk alone. I hope you’ll join me.
From all our Blue Horizon families to yours, Happy Fourth of July!
